AGIOS NIKOLAOS CHAPEL- POTAMI KARLOVASSI SAMOS
Before the visitor of the Potami beach reach the area will be passing by in front of this impressive little chapel as is dominating the place. It's architectural style is so strange for the Greek churches style, so with the first glance beckon the visitors.(www.trekearth.com)

Samos 2011 - Τhe Profitis Ilias Chapel on top of Karvounis
Karvounis mountain in the Ampelos mountain region is 1153 meter high. Here on the top lies the small Chapel Profitis Ilias.
Profitis Ilias is the name of the highest peak and from here you can look out over all of western Samos.
There are remains of the old castle of Lazarus (on the Lazarus Mountain) and nearby are the remains of another fortress, the Castle of Loulouda.
These fortresses were build in the 17th century during the period that the Arabs made regular raids on the island.
The name of the mountain Lazarus derives from the church of Agios Lazarus which was located inside the fortress.

~ Tanneries of Karlovassi ~
Historic Tanneries of Karlovassi
The largest two-story tanneries were constructed at the start of the 20 th century in the Riva area of Karlovasi. A true architectural revelation. The entire manufacturing process of leather was performed within these walls.
The initial processing required a large supply of water and thus the work was conducted on the lower level of the tannery. The upper level was reserved for the latter stages of processing and packaging.
Other large industries included olive mills, oil products, liquor & wine distilleries, tobacco products & cigarettes. Shipbuilding dates back to antiquity...until 1946 boats were hand crafted. There are still some shipbuilders using original techniques in Samos. The shipyards in the Karlovassi harbour are still active and worth visiting.
